Commonly known as the African Eggplant. Its scientific name is Solanum Macrocarpon. In Zambia most people call it Impwa, we are not sure what tribe that is.
This fruit originated from West Africa and now it is found growing naturally in most parts of Sub-Saharan African. It has been used in most communities as food and traditional medicine.
The fruit is used as a laxative in some parts of Nigeria. The roots are boiled and the liquid consumed to treat abdominal hookworms in some parts of Kenya. Other uses include the use of its crushed seeds to treat toothache, its roots are used to speed up wound healing. There could be more uses in traditional medicine.
Consumption of this vegetable is associated with reduced risk of heart diseases, weight loss, fighting prostate cancer, and promotes blood sugar control.
Remember, it is not the use of one type of food the helps but a combination of different beneficial foods, regular exercise, drinking water and adequate sleep that will help you live a healthier and productive life. You have heard.
